If you haven't gotten the OTA for the DROID, or aren't rooted and loaded a custom Froyo ROM you can now manually apply the official DROID update.

    Here is how:
    From Nexeo via BGR
    There you go, enjoy!

Does my phone have to be "rooted" to install 2.2 this way? I ask because I can't find the "root" folder on my SD card like the instructions said. And also, my friend just got the 2.2 update automatically, same city and provider, so why haven't I got it?

Re-read the first post, it says if you ARE or ARENT rooted you can update with the instructions.
When I say put it in the 'root' folder that means in the MAIN folder of the SD card, meaning, the file should not be in any folders. Open the SD card on the phone, and then you are IN the root of the SD Card.

VZW announced it is coming as a seperate OTA, which I think is in the process of being dispatched.
