Anyone know when Android 2.3 'Gingerbread' is rumored to be available for download for the HTC Evo? I'm anxious to update my phone to the new software release.

No date has been announced officially yet. You could always root and load a custom ROM of course. I have had 2.3.3 for about 3 months now :)

you root via unrevoked.com(recommended) or (maybe) via z4root (was in the market but now you have to search the interwebs for it)

You can load custom roms, remove stock apps, and change just about anything on the device.
What do you want to do?

    Yup, you can do that.
Keep in mind if you do root and load a custom rom you wont get updates from the carrier (which really isnt a bad thing) and you void your warrent, but just something to keep in mind.

    Well worth it.

Use google search on your evo to find this. Will bring up the direct link you need to download it.
