Make sure you also turn off "notifications" in the original messaging app, or you will get notified twice!

I just downloaded Handsent messaging last night. I have been wondering the same thing.

Handcent (I spelled it right this time.) is one of the bubble messaging thingees. YOU may or may not want it. I know that Blackberry uses this by default, but I don't know who else does.

Handcent I'd an sms/mms replacement app for the phone. It is very customizable, and can use bubble like messages. It also allows quick replies from a pop-up. Have been using it for a while, but they recently took away features that were previously free. I am currently using Go SMS.

Handcent is great, many more options and much more customizable than the default message app. It does have the bubble messages in a thread, but you can change the look of it if you dont like the bubble feel.

That app will always run, if you turn off the notifications you just wont see it pop up and Handcent will be in charge.

I like Handcent well enough, but sometimes it takes too long to load. It's hard to justify a 20 second lag to read an SMS!
